Index Ventures was founded in 1996 by Neil Rimer, David Rimer, and Giuseppe Zocco. Originally intended as the technology investment arm of Index Securities, a Swiss bond trading firm, Index Ventures quickly evolved into a wholly separate entity. Headquartered in San Francisco and London, Index Ventures has offices in Geneva and on the European island of Jersey. The firm is notable for its long history of international investments, directing much of its capital to Israeli and European markets. Investment partners Neil and Danny Rimer have each received substantial recognition in the last 5 years, earning places on various lists of top international venture capitalists.
Index Ventures backs companies in a range of technology sectors, investing across all stages. In 2021 the firm raised $3 billion in capital across three new funds. A number of Index Venture's portfolio companies have gone public through an IPO including Sonos, Etsy, Facebook, Betfair, Zendesk, and Squarespace. Other notable portfolio companies include Linktree, Bitpay, Discord, Figma, and Gatsby.
